Sewing for the Holidays and Old School Machine Embroidery

I posted these on Tuesday but forgot to tell you about them, sorry!

And So To Sew bulletin 17a by The Needlework Development Scheme

And So To Sew bulletin 17a is a new group of patterns for sewing mid century summer wear for girls. A cute top and shorts summer romper set, and a blouse and skirt combo.

And so To Embroider bulletin 17b by The Needlework Development Scheme

While And So To Embroider bulletin 17b teaches you all about decorative stitching with an ordinary home machine, no computerised embroidery machine needed! I’ve included a modern tutorial on bobbin work, for those who prefer a video.

I hope to get back on track (and on time!) next week with knitting patterns and other goodies.

Embroidered Birds and Cap Sleeve Blouses

This week “And So To Sew” and “And So To Embroider” include full patterns for your projects so you can get sewing (and embroidering!) straight away.

And Sew to Sew 16a by the NDS

And So to Sew bulletin 16a contains a pattern and instructions to sew a cute late 50’s cap sleeve blouse to fit a 32 or 34 inch bust, with instructions to make four variations of the pattern. I think this blouse would look equally nice with a period perfect circle skirt or a modern pair of jeans or tailored pants.

And So To Embroider 16b by the Needlework Development Scheme. Designing Toys (Bird Shapes)

While And So To Embroider bulletin 16b is all about making embroidered toy birds for play and decoration. Included is a full pattern for a chicken, with instructions on ways to make each of your birds unique.

It’s Party Time with “And So To Sew”

This week “And So To Sew’ and “And So To Embroider” feature girls’s party dresses and ideas for the sewing classroom.

And So To Sew 15a - two party dresses

This week’s “And So To Sew” bulletin 15a is a special one with two full patterns for sewing vintage party dresses for girls. Sized to fit a 30 to 32 inch bust and 24 to 26 inch waist, they’ll increase your sewing skills and your mid century wardrobe.

And So To Embroider bulletin 15b by the NDS

“And So To Embroider” bulletin 15b concentrates on the sewing classroom with tips and projects that would suit many home sewing studios. Including display boards, decorative wall storage for your favourite patterns and booklets, and how to set up an attractive, private fitting room in a public space.

Next week features one of my favourite “And So To Embroider” bulletins. If you’d like to find out what it is, don’t forget to subscribe to the site (on the left for desktop, underneath the post for tablet and mobile), and you’ll receive an email whenever I post new content.

Teneriffe Lace Instructions Update!

After using them to make lots of lacy bits and stalking the blogs of people who make them, I have updated the instructions for making a teneriffe lace pad (cushion or pillow).

The updates are basically this:

  1. Stuff the inner pad until you can’t stuff it any more and then stuff it some more anyway.
  2. If you like to change templates a lot, cut them smaller and use the pins in your design to hold them in place instead of sewing them on.

I like to sew on a favourite template on one side, and leave the other free for using any others.

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for this week’s free knitting pattern. It’s a good one!
