Knit this sweet vintage elephant, courtesy of the Australian Women’s Weekly, Saturday Nov 1st 1941.

1940's knitted elephant toy with free pattern included

Wearing a smart red waistcoat and sporting a red ribbon around his neck, this happy elephant would make a great present for the little ones. (Just make sure to embroider the eyes on instead of using buttons or beads).

Jumbo is knit with fingering weight wool on UK size 11/US 2/3mm needles and measures about 15 inches tall.

I have a soft spot for elephants, so expect to see more in the future!

Wonderful! I’ll be watching eagerly for a sewing pattern for an elephant. My dear elderly mother loves them, and is teaching me to sew. I’ve been trying to figure out what to make her, and now I know to keep my eyes open for a pattern from you.
Very best, and thank you for your warm hearted way of writing.

Joe, I’ve found a vintage elephant sewing pattern just for you. I’ll have to re-size the pattern first as it’s in a newspaper from the 1930’s but I’ll get it online for you as soon as I can 🙂
