Simple eyelet lace knit from a Victorian era knitting pattern

from “The Ladies’ Guide to Elegant Lace Patterns, Etc.”

The sample was knit with size 10 perle cotton and 2.25mm needles and measures 4½ cm/1¾” wide

Pattern

In Words

Cast on 10 sts and knit 1 row.

Row 1 (RS): sl 1, k1, yo, p2tog, k2, (yo) twice, k2tog, k2

Row 2 (WS): k4, p1, k2, yo, p2tog, k2

Row 3: sl 1, k1, yo, p2tog, k3, (yo) twice, k2tog, k2

Row 4: k4, p1, k3, yo, p2tog, k2

Row 5: sl 1, k1, yo, p2tog, k4, (yo) twice, k2tog, k2

Row 6: k4, p1, k4, yo, p2tog, k2

Row 7: sl 1, k1, yo, p2tog, k9

Row 8: Cast off 3, k5, yo, p2tog, k2

These 8 rows form the pattern. Repeat for desired length.
