A sample of the two stitch patterns used in the quilt
Pattern
This quilt is made of two different types of panels knit in strips and sewn together. One panel is knit in honeycomb stitch, and the other is cabled.
The original version of this pattern calls for 4 pounds of size 10 cotton but doesn’t say what size bed the cover is intended for.
In modern terms size 10 cotton is roughly equivalent to fingering-sportweight but this bedspread can be made with any yarn and needles sized to suit.
Finish the bedspread with a border of your choice.
Honeycomb Panel
The honeycomb panel is identical to the one from Home Work, written in 1891.
The sample was knit with size 5 perle cotton on 3mm needles and measures approximately 25 cm/10″ across for the full width of the strip. The photo shows only half the width of the full strip as I only cast on 38 stitches for my sample.
