This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on
Materials
American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346 1-300 yd. Ball White and
“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5 4-50 yd. Balls Blue will make the Round and Square Holders.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.
Pattern
With Blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 8 sc in ring, join.
2nd Row: 2 sc in each sc, join each row.
3rd Row: * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around.
4th Row: 1 sc in each sc, drop Blue. When changing color always complete last half of st with next color.
5th Row: Attach White, ch 3 (counts as 1/3 part of 1st puff st) and work 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in same space (puff st: thread over needle, insert in st, pull up the length of a d c, * thread over needle, insert in same space, pull up the same length, repeat from *, thread over and pull through all loops on needle but one, thread over and pull through 2 loops), * 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in next sc, repeat from * twice ending row with 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, join in top of 1st puff st, sl st into loop, drop White.
6th Row: Pick up Blue, ch 1 and work
* 3 sc in the ch 2 loop,
1 sc in next puff st, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, 1 sc in next puff st, repeat from * all around joining in 1st sc.
7th Row: Sl st to next st, drop Blue, pick up White, ch 3 and work 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in same space, * 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in next sc, repeat from * twice, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, join in top of 1st puff st, sl st into loop, drop White.
8th Row: With Blue, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each sc on sides, 1 sc in each puff st at corners and 3 sc in each corner loop, join, sl st to next st, drop Blue.
9th Row: With White, work 1 sc in each sc and 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in center sc at each corner, join in top of 1st puff st, sl st into loop, drop White.
Repeat the 8th and 9th rows until there are 13 White and 12 Blue stripes.
Work another section in same manner reversing the Colors.
With White, crochet the 2 sections together as follows:
attach thread in corner loop, ch 3, 4 dc in same space, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 3 dc in next sc, repeat from * across sides working 5 dc in each corner loop, break thread.
With White, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to holder.
