This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on
Materials
- American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346: 1-300 yd. Ball White
- “Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5: 4-50 yd. Balls Blue. These will be enough to make the Round and Square Holders.
- Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.
Pattern
With Blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 8 sc in ring, join.
2nd Row: 2 sc in each sc, join.
3rd Row: Ch 1, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around, join.
4th Row: Ch 1 and work 1 sc in each sc, join, drop Blue.
When changing color always complete last half of st with next color.
5th Row: Attach White, ch 3 (counts as 1/3 part of 1st puff st) and work 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in same space (puff st: thread over needle, insert in st, pull loop up the length of a dc. * thread over needle, insert in same space and pull loop up the same length, repeat from *, thread over and pull through all loops on needle but one, thread over and pull through 2 loops) * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in next sc, repeat from * all around ending row with sc in each of the next 2 sc, join in top of 1st puff st
6th Row: Sl st into loop, drop White, pick up Blue, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each 2 ch loop and 1 sc in each st, join, drop Blue.
7th Row: With White work 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in the sc between puff sts, * 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in next sc, repeat from * all around, ending row with 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, join in top of 1st puff st, sl st into loop, drop White.
8th Row: Same as 6th row.
9th Row: With White, work 2 puff sts with ch 2 between in the sc between the 2 puff sts and 1 sc in each sc in each sc section.
Repeat the 8th and 9th rows having 2 more sc in each sc section every other row until there are 10 Blue and 11 White
stripes ending with the White row, break thread.
Work another section in same manner.
With Blue, crochet the 2 sections together as follows:
attach thread in loop between puff sts, ch 3, 4 dc in same space, ** ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next st, repeat from * 4 times, ch 1, 5 d c in next loop between puff sts, repeat from ** all around.
With Blue, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to potholder.
