“Anyone deft in the manipulation of the tatting shuttle will welcome these new patterns for bedroom uses. Although delicate in appearance, this dainty lace is exceedingly durable and is therefore an admirable trim for the towels and pillow cases which make such frequent trips to the laundry.”
Pillow-Case Border
This pillow case is bordered with a deep hem shaped at the top to conform to the medallion inserts and hem-stitched either with big-needle work or by machine. Openings are then cut into the edge of the hem large enough so that
when the cut edges are turned and overcast together, the medallion will fit neatly inside.
No. 30 crochet cotton is used for the tatting.
Medallion
Make a ring of (1 double knot, picot) 10 times, 1 double knot, close. Turn.
Chain (2 double knots, picot) 5 times, 2 double knots, join ; second picot on ring.
Continue thus around ring, making five petals. Turn.
Chain 8 double knots, picot, 8 double knots, turn and repeat from ring 3 times, joining corresponding petals at center picot of the four motifs, forming the inside square of the medallion with a center ring of 8 double knots separated by as many picots, alternate picots being joined to picots on connecting chains of motifs.
Edge of medallion is a chain of (2 double knots, picot) 5 times, 2 double knots, joining all free petals and also at each corner, joining its point of beginning.
Edging
The edge which borders the case is chain of (2 double knots, picot) 3 times, 2 double knots, with an extra 2 picots and 2 double knots at point.
Dresser Mat
Being composed of individual motifs, the size and shape of this mat can be regulated to individual requirements.
No. 20 crochet cotton is used.
Square Motif
Follow directions for pillow case medallion, center omitted, the picots on the connecting chains being joined to one another for center.
Plain Square
Same, with all but center picots omitted on inner square.
Round Medallion
Make a ring of (2 double knots, picot) 12 times, 2 double knots, close. Turn.
Chain 12 double knots, picot, 12 double knots, join last picot on ring.
Continue thus around ring, making 12 petals. Cut and tie.
Edge is chain of 6 double knots, picot, 6 double knots, joining each petal.
Central Filler
Make a ring of (1 double knot, picot) 8 times, close. Turn.
Chain (2 double knots, picot) 7 times, join second picot on ring.
Continue around ring, making four petals.
Side Filler is made the same way with the two last petals omitted and is joined as shown.
Towel Edge
Number 20 mercerized crochet cotton is used for this lace.
Make a ring of 6 double knots, picot, 6 double knots, (2 double knots, picot) 6 times, 2 double knots, close. Turn.
Chain 12 double knots, picot, 12 double knots, join last picot on ring.
Continue in this manner, making six petals. Turn.
Chain 7 double knots, picot, 6 double knots, join picot on last petal, 6 double knots, picot, 7 double knots.
Turn and repeat from ring, joining first petal of second motif to last petal of first motif.
First Row Edging
Join picot of first petal on first motif.
Chain (2 double knots, picot) 5 times, 2 double knots, join picot on next petal.
Continue this around the six petals, omitting last three picots on chain between fifth and sixth petals and first three on first chain of next motif, joining this chain to second picot of preceding chain.
Second Row Edging
This edge is made simply by a chain of 1 double knot, picot, 1 double knot, joined to each picot of first row edging.
