The Vest – 3 oz
The Knickers – 3 oz
Two UK No 10/3.25mm/US 3 and two UK No 12/2.75mm/US 2 Knitting Needles
Measurements
The Vest: Width all round at underarm, to fit 34 inches (actual measurement, 29 inches)
The Knickers: Length of front seam to lower edge of gusset – 13½ ins.
Length of leg seam – 3½ ins.
Tension
Work at a tension to produce 1 pattern (10 stitches) to 1¼ inches.
Pattern
The Back
Using the No. 10 Needles, cast on 112 stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1 , repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat this row three times.
5th row: K1, * P4, K2tog, yo, P4, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
6th row: K1, * K4, P2, K4, repeat from * to the last stitch , K1. **
7th row: K1, * P2, P2tog, yo, K2, yo, P2tog, P2, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
8th row: K1, * K3, P4, K3, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
9th row: K1, * P3, K4, P3, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
10th row: Like the 8th row.
11th row: Like the 9th row.
12th row: K1, * K4, P2, K4, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
13th row: K1, * P5, knit into the back of the second stitch, and, before slipping this stitch off the needle, knit into the front of the first stitch, P3 (the crossing of these two stitches will now be termed “Cross” throughout), repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
14th row: K1, * K3 , P1, K6, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
15th row: K1, * P6, Cross, P2, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
16th row: K1, * K2, P1, K7, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.

34th row: K1, * K4, P2, K4, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1. **
Repeat from ** to ** four times, then from the 7th to the 14th rows once.
Using the No. 12 Needles, proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, repeat from* to the end of the row.
Repeat this row twenty-five times.
Using the No. 10 Needles, repeat from the 15th to the 34th rows once, then from ** to ** once.
Using the No. 12 Needles, repeat the 1st row nine times.
Cast off.
The Front
Using the No. 10 Needles, cast on 112 stitches.
Work exactly as given for the Back until the ribbing at the top of the vest is reached.
Using the No. 12 Needles, proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat this row eight times.
10th row: K2, (P1, K1) twenty-seven times, turn.
Work in rib on these 56 stitches, decreasing once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row until 10 stitches remain.
Continue in rib on these 10 stitches for the length required.
Cast off.
Join in the wool and work on the remaining 56 stitches as follows:
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, repeat from * to the end of the row.
Work in rib on these 56 stitches, decreasing once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row until 10 stitches remain.
Continue in rib on these 10 stitches for length required.
Cast off.
To Make Up the Vest
With a damp cloth and hot iron, press carefully.
Sew up the side seams.
Sew the straps in position at the back, 4½ inches from the side seam.
The Knickers
The Left Leg
Using the No. 12 Needles, cast on 114 stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat this row twelve times.
14th row: K2, (P1, K1) twice, P1, * increase once in the next stitch, (P1, K1) six times, P1, repeat from * to the last 9 stitches, increase once in the next stitch, (P1, K1) four times (122 stitches).
Using the No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:
1st row: K1, * P4, K2tog, yo, P4, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
2nd row: K1, * K4, P2, K4, repeat from* to the last stitch, K1.
3rd row: Increase once in the first stitch, * P2, P2tog, yo, K2, yo, P2tog, P2, repeat from * to the last 11 stitches, P2, P2tog, yo, K2, yo, P2tog, P1, increase once in the next stitch, K1.
4th row: K2, * K3, P4, K3, repeat from * to the last 2 stitches, K2.
5th row: Increase once in the first stitch, P1, * P3, K4, P3 , repeat from * to the last 2 stitches, increase once in the next stitch, K1.
6th row: * K6, P4, repeat from * to the last 6 stitches, K6.
7th row: Increase once in the first stitch, P2, * P3, K4, P3, repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, P1, increase once in the next stitch, K1.

Shape for the back as follows:

5th row: Increase once in the first stitch, P1, K1, P1, increase once in the next stitch, K1.

To Make Up the Knickers
With a damp cloth and hot iron, press carefully.
Sew up the leg seam to the last increasing.
Sew up the back and front seams to within 3 inches of the leg seam.
Sew gusset in position.
Thread elastic through the holes at the waist.
