Bored with Kilt Hose Socks

Knitted socks with free pattern

Materials

Set of US#5 (3.75mm) dpns

1x100g Red Heart Kids worsted weight (I used Bikini) (I did not check gauge, I can eyeball)
Note from Sarah: (I assume the gauge would be 22sts to 4 inches on the suggested needles with worsted weight yarn)

Size

To fit average woman’s foot, length is adjustable

Pattern

For Cuff
Cast on 42 sts and work 32 rounds of K1, P1 rib

Heel flap and heel
Rib for 10 sts at beg of next round.
Turn and rib 20
Continue as follows on these 20sts.
Row 1: K1, slip 1, to end.
Row 2: K1, P to last st, K1
Row 3: K1 * K1, slip1 repeat from * to end.
Row 4: as row 2
Repeat these 4 rows until 18 rows have been worked

Next row: K13, K2 tog, turn,
*Slip 1, P7, P2 tog, turn,
slip1, K7, K2 together, turn,
repeat from * until 8 sts remain.

Gusset and Foot
Knit 8, then pick up and knit 10 sts along the edge of the heel flap, place a marker, knit across 22 sts, place a marker, then pick up and knit 10 sts from other side of the heel flap, then knit 4 heel sts so the beginning of your round will be the centre of the heel

Gusset round 1: K to last 2 sts before marker, K2tog, K22 (to next marker), K2tog tbl, (tbl= through back of loop) K to end.

Round 2: K all sts.

Work these 2 rounds twice more, then round 1 again (42sts)

K all round without shaping until foot measures 2″ less than your foot length. (I am a size 7-8 US (5-6 UK) and it took 39 rounds)

Toe
Round 1: K to last 4sts before marker, K2 tog, K4, K2tog tbl, K to last 4 sts before marker K2tog, K4, K2tog tbl, K to end
Round 2: K all sts.
Repeat these 2 rounds until 11 rounds have been worked

Graft sts. together ( I used 3 needle bind off). Sew in loose ends.
