UK No.8/4mm/US 6 knitting needles or needles required to achieve the correct gauge.

Tension

To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 7 stitches to the inch in width, measured over plain, smooth fabric.

The Centre

Cast on 2 stitches.

1st row: (Inc once in next st) twice.

2nd row: Inc once in first st, knit to end of row. Rep. 2nd row until side edge of work measures 28 ins.

Next row: K1, K2tog, knit to end of row.

Rep last row until 2 sts remain, K2tog, Fasten off.

Make Up

Using a flat seam, sew cast off edge of the border to cast on edge. Placing mitred corners to corners of centre, sew evenly around centre.

Roll shawl in a damp towel for several hours, then spread out flat, pinning each point out separately with rustless pins and leave until dry.
