Tension
To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 8 stitches to the inch in width,
measured over stocking stitch.

The Centre
Next row: Knit plain.
Next row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: (Right side of work facing) P2tog, * pick up loop between st just worked and next st, and knit it tbl, (this will now be termed “Increase”), K1, “Increase”, P3tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, Increase, K1, Increase, P2tog
2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
3rd row: K1, * “Increase,” P3tog, “Increase,” K1, rep. from * to end of row.
4th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
Rep. rows 1-4 incl. until centre forms a square. Cast off.
To Make Up
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew corners of borders together.
Sew border to centre of shawl. Press seams.
