This scarf pattern (“comforter”) uses a pattern stitch that produces a reversible, cushy, three-dimensional fabric.

Using 3.25mm/US3 needles and DK weight yarn in two colors, CO 39 sts in one color.

Row 1: *p1, yo, sl1wyif, repeat from * to last st, p1 (58 sts)

Row 2: *p2tog, yo, sl1wyif, repeat from * to last st, p1

Repeat row 2 until scarf is desired length, switching colors every 6 rows. BO purlwise. Add fringe No. 1 or a tassel to each end, if desired.

Note: As swatched, gauge was 27.25 sts and 38 rows to 4 inches, and each 6-row stripe took about 7.5 yards / 3 grams of Knitpicks Merino Style yarn.
