This pattern was designed by Laurence Lee Leslie in 1906 and appeared in the April edition of The Modern Priscilla on page 31. There is a matching “Open Diamond Lace” edging in the December 1905 edition.
The pattern and chart below have been updated by Sarah Bradberry to use modern techniques and terminology.
Abbreviations
K = knit
P = purl
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
P2tog = purl two stitches together
p&k = purl the next stitch without taking it off the left hand needle, knit the same stitch and drop it off the needle. This creates 2 stitches out of 1.
P and k2tog = purl the next stitch without taking it off the left hand needle, knit the next two stitches together (the one you just purled and the one after it) and drop them off the needle.
sl1 k2tog psso = Slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over
ssk =
Slip next st from left hand needle to right hand needle knitways. Slip next st the same way. Return both sts to left hand needle in their new twisted positions and k2tog through the backs of the loops.
yo = yarn over.
yo twice = work two yarn overs next to each other. On the following row these are made into two stitches by knitting and purling into the double yarn over.
