Angora mushroom beanie from a vintage pattern

Materials

Patons Double Quick Knitting (DK weight) wool – 2 balls

Fuzzy Wuzzy 55% Angora / 45% wool fingering weight – 1 ball

1 pair each old UK 9 / Us 5 / metric 3.75mm and old UK 11 / US 2 or 3 / Metric 3mm needles

Gauge

11½ stitches to 2 inches in width, measured over stocking stitch in Double Quick worked on 3.75mm needles

Size

To fit an average size of 20″-22″

Abbreviations

M1 =Make 1 by picking up loop that lies before next st. and knitting into back of it.

Pattern

Using 3.75mm Needles and Double Quick Knitting, cast on 110 stitches.

Work in K1, P1 rib for 7 ins.

Change to 3mm Needles and using Angora for remainder of Hat, proceed as follows:

Next row: K5, (M1, K2, M1, K3) twenty times, M1, K5. (151 sts)

Next row: Purl.

Work crown as follows:

1st row: Knit.

2nd row: Purl.

Work these 2 rows six times more.

Shape crown as follows:

1st row: * K13, K2tog, rep. from * to last st., K1.

2nd and alt. rows: Purl.

3rd row: * K12, K2tog, rep. from * to last st., K1.

5th row: * K11, K2tog, rep. from * to last st., K1.

6th row: Purl.

Continue dec. in this manner on next and every alt. row until 21 sts. remain.

Next row: P1, (P2tog) ten times.

Thread Angora through remaining sts., draw up and fasten off securely.

Finishing

Using a back-stitch seam, join seam, taking care to reverse seam for turn back.
