Abbreviations
M.B. = Make bobble by P1, K1, P1, K1, into next st ., thus making 4 sts. out of next st., turn, K4, turn, P4, slip 2nd 3rd and 4th sts. over first st.
Pattern
Cast on 97 stitches.
Proceed in reverse stocking stitch ridges as follows:
1st row: Knit.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: Knit.
4th and 5th rows: Purl.
6th row: Knit.
7th-18th rows: Rep. 4th-6th rows four times.
19th row: Purl.
20th-23rd rows: Commencing with a knit row, work in stocking stitch.
24th row: K6, * M.B., K11, rep. from * to last 7 sts., M.B., K6.
25th row: Purl.
26th row: K5, * M.B., K1, M.B., K9, rep. from *to last 8 sts., M.B., K1, M.B., K5.
27th row: Purl.
28th row: As 24th row.
29th row: Purl.
30th-33rd rows: As 20th-23rd rows.
34th row: * K3, K2tog, rep. from * to last 2 sts.,
K2. (78 sts)
Work rows 4-6 incl. of reverse stocking stitch ridges as at commencement.
Purl 2 rows.
Next row: (K2tog, K1) twenty-six times. (52 sts)
Work rows 4-6 incl. of ridges.
Purl 2 rows.
Next row: K1, (K2tog, K1) seventeen times. (35 sts)
Next row: Purl.
Work peak as follows:
1st row: (K3, K2tog) seven times.
2nd and alt. rows: Purl.
3rd row: (K2, K2tog) seven times.
5th row: (K1, K2tog) seven times.
7th row: (K2tog) seven times.
9th row: (K2tog) three times, K1.
Thread wool through remaining sts., draw up and fasten
off securely.
Finishing
Using a back-stitch seam, join seam. Using 5 lengths of wool 19 ins. long, make a twisted cord and attach a tassel to end of cord. Stitch cord to centre of crown. Press seam.
