Ivy Tidy from “The Ladies’ Guide to Elegant Lace Patterns, Etc.”, shown with fringe on all four sides.
Pattern
This tidy can be knit with any yarn and needles to suit. 50gm of fingering weight cotton and 2.75mm needles will make a tidy approximately 35.5 cm/14″ wide and 43 cm/17″ long before adding the fringe.
This pattern is similar to the Coral Pattern Tidy from Home Work, published in 1891, except that this version has a wider border and is designed to be finished off with a wide fringe. It also has left rather than right leaning decreases in the ivy leaves.
If you want to omit the fringe and have a tidy with edges that don’t curl, work the first and last 12 rows in garter stitch and knit the first and last 10 sts of every wrong side row.
