Abbreviations
k = knit
yo = yarn over
k2tog = knit two stitches together
Colour Pattern
Use 8 shades of red yarn, beginning with the darkest, and working 12 rows of each, then reversing colours starting with the second lightest shade.
Cast on any number of stitches divisible by 9, plus 8 more for the edges
Rows 1 – 4: k across
Row 5: k4, *yo, k5, k2tog, double yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4
Row 6: k4, purl to last four stitches (double yo’s purled as one stitch), k4
Row 7: k4, *k1, yo, k4, k2tog, double yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4
Row 8: k4, purl to last four stitches (double yo’s purled as one stitch), k4
Row 9: k4, *k2, yo, k3, k2tog, double yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4
Row 10: k4, purl to last four stitches (double yo’s purled as one stitch), k4
Row 11: k4, *k3, yo, k2, k2tog, double yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4
Row 12: k4, purl to last four stitches (double yo’s purled as one stitch), k4
