Vintage pullover with lace diamonds and ribbed patterning up the front

Materials

6 skeins (short sleeves), 8 skeins (long sleeves) “Sun-Glo” Shrinkproof 3-ply Fingering Wool, Shade No. 2137 (Green);

2 prs. needles, UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2

Measurements

Length from top of shoulder, 20″;
bust, 32/34″;
length of sleeve seam, 5″.
Note:
For 36″ bust, use UK No 9/3.75mm/US 5 instead of No. 10 needles.

Tension

7 sts, 1″; 9 rows, 1″.

Abbreviations

K: Knit.
P: Purl.
St: Stitch.
Tog: Together.
Sl: Slip
Yo: Yarn over
Psso: Pass slip stitch over.
Tbl: Through back of loops.
DC: Double crochet. (US single crochet)
Bl: blue.
St st (Stocking Stitch): K1 row, P1 row alternately.
Garter St: Knit every row.
Moss st: With an uneven number of sts work as follows: K1,* P1, K1, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat this row throughout.

With an even number of sts work as follows:
1st Row: * K1, P1, repeat from * to end of row.
2nd Row: * P1, K1, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat 1st and 2nd row alternately.

Pattern

Back

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 101 sts

Work in rib of K1, P1, for 3½” (working 1st row into back of sts).

Change to No. 10 needles and work in following pattern:

1st Row: K twice into 1st st, K22, * yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, * K49, repeat from * to *, K22, k twice into last st (103 sts).

2nd and Alternate Rows: P

3rd Row: K22, * K2tog, yo, K3, yo, K2tog, * K45, repeat from * to *, K22.

5th Row: K21, * K2tog, yo, K5, yo, K2tog, * K43, repeat from * to *, K21.

7th Row: K twice into 1st st, K22, * yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, yo, * K47, repeat from * to *, K22, K2 twice into last
st (105 sts).

9th Row: K25, * yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, * K49, repeat from * to *, K25.

11th Row: K19, * yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, * k 9, repeat from * to *, K37, repeat from * to *, k 9, repeat from * to *, K19.

20th Row: P

These 20 rows complete 1 pattern.

Continue in pattern still increasing 1 st each end of every 6th row until increased to 125 sts

Continue without shaping until work measures 12½”

Shape armholes by casting off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.

K2tog each end of the next 4 rows, then every 2nd row 4 times.

Continue in pattern until armhole measures 5½”, ending with 10th row of pattern.

Work in rib of K1, P1, for 1½” to form yoke, shape shoulders by casting off 9 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows. Cast off.

Front

Work the same as for back until 5 complete patterns have been worked, ending with 20th row.

Work yoke as follows:

1st Row: K23, * yo, sl 1, K2tog, psso, yo, * K14, (P1, K1) 10 times, P1, K14, repeat from * to *, K23.

2nd and Alternate Rows: P40, (K1, P1) 10 times, K1, P40.

3rd Row: K21, * K2tog, yo, K3, yo, K2tog, * K12, (P1, K1) 10 times, P1, K12, repeat from * to *, K21.

5th Row: K20, * K2tog, yo, K5, yo, K2tog, * K11, (P1, K1) 10 times, P1, K11, repeat from * to *, K20.

Continue in rib until armhole measures 7″, shape shoulders by casting off 9 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows. Cast off.

Short Sleeves

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 78 sts

Work in rib of K1, P1, for 10 rows (working 1st row into back of sts).

Change to No. 10 needles and work in st st, increasing 1 st each end of the next then every 4th row following until increased to 88 sts

Work in st st until sleeve seam measures 5″.

K2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 58 sts, then every row until decreased to 28 sts

Cast off.

Long Sleeves

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 58 sts

Work in rib of K1, P1, for 3″ (working 1st row into back of sts) .

Change to No. 10 needles and work in st st, increasing 1 st each end of every 8th row until increased to 88 sts

When sleeve seam measures 19″ or required length, shape the top the same as for short sleeves.

Shoulder Pads

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 42 sts

Work in st st for 6″. Cast off.

Fold diagonally, lightly pad with cotton wool and sew up edges.

To Make Up

Press with a warm iron and damp cloth.

Sew up seams, sew in sleeves and shoulder pads.
