12 ozs. Paton’s “Totem” 12 ply Knitting Wool – the original was worked with Shell Pink (shade 02638).
Two UK No 1/7.5mm/(no equivalent US size) Knitting Needles
One UK No 8/4mm/US G-6 Crochet Hook.
1 yard of Double Satin Ribbon, 1½ inches in width.
1½ yards of Double Satin Ribbon, ½ inch in width.
One Press Stud.
Length from top of shoulder – 22 ins.
Width all round at underarm to fit 34 ins. to 36 ins. (actual measurement, 40 ins.)
Length of sleeve from under-arm – 17½ ins.
Work at a tension to produce 4 stitches to the inch
(The Back and Fronts are worked in one.)
Cast on 64 stitches ** Work 8 rows in Garter Stitch (i.e., every row plain).
9th row: K1, * yo, K1, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
10th row: Knit plain, allowing the yo in the previous row to slip off the needles.**
Repeat from ** to ** five times, then work from the 1st to the 6th rows once.
Proceed as follows:
Cast off 3 stitches at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows.
Decrease once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row, until 52 stitches remain.
Work 21 rows in pattern.
In the next row, K15, cast off 22 stitches, K15.
Work on the last 15 stitches as follows:
Keeping the continuity of the pattern, increase once at the neck edge in every 3rd row, until there are 22 stitches on the needle.
Still increasing at the neck edge in every 3rd row, increase once at the armhole edge in every alternate row three times.
In the next row, cast on 3 stitches at the armhole edge, work to the end of the row.
Continue in pattern, increasing once at the neck edge in every 3rd row until there are 34 stitches on the needle.
Work in pattern, without shaping until the Front measures the same as the Back from the underarm. Cast off.
Join in the wool at the neck edge and work on the remaining 15 stitches to correspond.
Cast on 16 stitches.
Work in pattern, as given for the Jacket, increasing once at the beginning and end of the needle in every alternate row, until there are 46 stitches on the needle.
Work from ** to ** six times, then 8 rows in Garter Stitch.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K1, * yo, K2tog, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.
Work 8 rows in Garter Stitch. Cast off.
Work another Sleeve in the same manner.
To Make Up the Dressing Jacket
With a damp cloth and hot iron, steam, but do not press.
Sew up the side and sleeve seams.
Sew in the sleeves, placing seam to seam.
Using the Crochet Hook, work an edging round the Jacket as follows:
1st row: Work in double crochet.
2nd row: * (1 dc, 3 trebles) in the first dc, miss 2 dc, repeat from * all round the Jacket.
Work the 2nd row only round the sleeves.
Thread the narrow ribbon through the holes at the wrist.
Make a bow of the wider ribbon, and sew in position at the neck.
Sew on the press stud at the neck opening.
