Materials
7 skeins (short sleeves, 9 skeins (long sleeves), “SunGlo” shrinkproof crepe wool or “SunGlo” shrinkproof 3-ply fingering wool, shade No. 2163 (Ballet Blue).
2 pairs Needles, Old UK Nos. 10 and 12/US 3 and 3/Metric 3.25mm and 2.75mm
8 buttons.
Measurements
Length from top of shoulder 20 inches. Bust 32/ 34 inches.
Length of sleeve seam 4½ inches.
NOTE: For 36 inch bust, use Old UK No. 9/US 5/metric 3.75mm instead of No. 10 needles.
Tension
7 sts and 9 rows to 1 inch.
Back
Using smaller needles cast on 96 sts. Work in rib of k1, p1, for 3½ inches (working 1st row into back of sts).
Change to larger needles, * p5, p. twice into next st., repeat from * to end of row (112 sts).
1st Pattern
1st Row: K28, * yo, sl. 1, k1, psso., k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl. 1, k1, psso., k2, k2tog, yo, k30, repeat from * ending with
k28 instead of k30.
2nd and alternate rows : P27, * k1, p13, k1, p28, repeat from * ending with p27 instead of p28.
3rd Row: K28, * yo, sl. 1, k1, psso., k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl. 1, k1, psso., k1, k2tog, yo, k30, repeat from * ending with k28 instead of k30.

Left Front
Using smaller needles cast on 60 sts. Work in rib of k1, p1, for 3½ inches (working 1st row into back of sts).
Change to larger needles, * p4, p. twice into next st., repeat from *to last 5 sts, p5 (71 sts).
1st Row: K28, work 13 sts in 1st pattern, k30, cast on 6 sts (to form a hem).
2nd Row: P35, k1, p13, k1, p27.
Continue in 1st pattern, keeping the sts each side in st.st., and when work measures 12½ inches cast off 5 sts at armhole edge of the next row.
Work 1 row.
K2tog at armhole edge of the next 3 rows, then every 2nd row 3 times (66 sts).
Next Row: (Wrong side of work) p12, k54.
2nd Row: K1, * yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last 13 sts, k13.
3rd Row: P.
4th Row: Work 54 sts, as 4th row of 2nd pattern, k12.
Continue as for 2nd pattern, keeping 12 border sts in st.st., until 15th row has been worked.
16th Row: K1, * yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last 13 sts., k13.
17th Row: P12, k54.
Continue in st.st., and when armhole measures 5½ inches cast off 22 sts at neck edge of the next row.
K2tog at neck edge every row until decreased to 30 sts
When armhole measures 7 inches cast off 10 sts at armhole edge every 2nd row 3 times.
Right Front
Work to correspond with left front, working border at opposite end and making buttonholes as follows:- 1st one being ½ inch from lower edge and 7 more 2½ inches apart.
Buttonholes
1st Row: Rib 2, cast off 3, rib to end.
2nd Row: Rib to last 2 sts, cast on 3 sts, rib 2 sts
Buttonholes (after Basque)
1st Row: K 1, cast off 3 sts, k4, cast off 3 sts, work to end of row.
2nd Row: Work to last 5 sts, cast on 3 sts, p4, cast on 3 sts, p1.
Short Sleeves
Using smaller needles cast on 74 sts. Work in rib of k1, p1, for 1½ inches (working 1st row into back of sts).
Change to larger needles, * p4, p. twice into next st., repeat from * to last 4 sts, p3, p. twice into last st. (89 sts).
1st Row: K38, work 13 sts in pattern (1st pattern as for back), k38.
2nd Row: P37, k1, p13, k1, p37.
Continue to keep the 13 centre sts in pattern and when work measures 4½ inches k2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 49 sts
When work measures 6 inches from 1st decrease cast off 12 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Work the remaining 25 sts for 1½ inches. Cast off.
Stitch the cast off sts to side of sts worked for 1½ inches.
Cuffs
Using larger needles cast on 74 sts. Work in st.st. for 2 inches. Cast off.
Make ½ inch hem across top and sew on to sleeves.
Long Sleeves
Using smaller needles cast on 60 sts Work in rib of k1, p1, for 3 inches (working 1st row into back of sts).
Change to larger needles, p1 row, increasing 1 st. (61 sts ).
1st Row: K24, work 13 sts in 1st pattern as for back, k24.
2nd Row: P23, k1, p13, k1, p23.
Continue to keep the 13 centre sts in pattern and increase 1 st. in st.st. each end of every 8th row until increased to 89 sts
When sleeve seam measures 19 inches or required length, shape the top the same as for short sleeves.
Collar
Using smaller needles, cast on 84 sts. Work 2 rows rib of k1, p1.
Change to larger needles, p1 row, purling twice into every 4th st. (105 sts).
Work in st.st. for 1 inch.
K2tog each end of every 2nd row 3 times, then every row 3 times. Cast off loosely.
Make a narrow hem around edge, rounding the corners.
Shoulder Pads
Using larger needles cast on 24 sts Work 24 rows st.st.
Cast off.
Fold in half, pad with cotton wool and sew up edges.
To Make Up
Press with a warm iron and damp cloth.
Sew up seams, sew in sleeves and shoulder pads.
Stitch back facings on each front, stitching buttonholes together on right front.
Sew on collar. Sew buttons on left front.
