All Pure Wool (fingering weight)
To fit 18-20 inch underarm – 2 balls
Length from top of shoulder – 9 ins.
Knitting Needles, 1 pair UK No 10/3.25mm/US 2
Floss for Embroidery.
Five Small Buttons.
Tension
To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.
Pattern
Commencing at Back
Cast on 56 stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Rep 1st row thirteen times.
** 15th row: Knit plain.
16th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
17th row: K1, * yo, slip 1 purlways, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1.
18th row: Like 17th row. **
Keeping continuity of patt as given from to inc once at each end of needle in next and every alt row, until there are 116 sts on needle.
Cast on 12 sts at beg of next 2 rows (140 sts)
Work 21 rows in patt without shaping.
In next row: Work 55 sts in patt, K30, work in patt to end of row.
Rep this row eleven times.
In next row: Work 55 sts in patt, K5, cast off 20 sts, K5, work in patt to end of row.
Keeping continuity of patt and border, work 38 rows without shaping on first 60 sts
Leave remaining sts on stitch holder.
Cast off 12 sts at beg of next row, then dec once at armhole edge in next and every alt row, until 18 sts remain.
Work 1 row in patt without shaping.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K5, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 5 sts, K5 .
Rep 1st and 2nd rows six times.
Cast off loosely.
Join in wool where sts were left, and keeping continuity of patt and border, work 16 rows without shaping, casting on 25 sts at end of last row.
In next row: K30, work in patt. to end of row. (85 sts).
In following row: Work 55 sts in patt, K30.
Keeping continuity of patt and border, work 10 rows without shaping, making a buttonhole in following 4th row.
To make a buttonhole:
Work 55 sts in patt, K27, yo, K2tog, K1.
Keeping border of 6 sts in Garter Stitch at inside edge, continue in patt, making a buttonhole as before in every 22nd
row from previous buttonhole, three times, (4 buttonholes), from commencement, whilst at the same time casting off
12 sts at beg of needle in 10th row, then dec once at outside edge in every alt row, until 43 sts remain.
Work 2 rows in patt without shaping.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K6, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows six times, making a buttonhole as before in following 8th row.
Cast off loosely.
The Cuffs
With right side of work facing, knit up 42 sts evenly along sleeve edge.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Rep 1st row ten times.
Cast off in rib. Work other Cuff in same manner.
To Make Up
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew up side and cuff seams.
Embroider with grub roses top border of the right front
Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
