Size and Materials
Patons Beehive Lady Betty or other fingering weight yarn
20 inch underarm – 2 ozs.
Length from top of shoulder – 11 ins.
Length of sleeve from underarm – 6½ ins.
Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Old UK sizes 10 and 12/US 3 and 2/metric 3.25mm and 2.75mm
Length of Ribbon.
Gauge
To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 8 stitches to the inch in width on larger needles.
Pattern
The Left Front
Using larger needles, cast on 47 stitches.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st., K1.
Rep. 1st row five times. Proceed as follows:
** 1st row: * K1, P2, K3, P2, rep. from *to last 7 sts., (K1, P1) three times, K1.
2nd row: (K1, P1) three times, K3, * P3, K2, P1, K2, rep. from * to last 6 sts., P3, K3.
3rd row: Like 1st row.
4th row: Like 2nd row.
5th row: * K1, P2, slip 1, K2, psso, P2, rep. from * to last 7 sts. (K1, P1) three times, K1.
6th row: (K1, P1) three times, K3, * P1, yo, P1, K2, P1, K2, rep. from * to last 5 sts., P1, yo, P1, K3. **
Rep. from ** to ** ten times.
Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next row, then dec. once at beg. of needle in every alt. row until 30 sts. remain.
In next row, cast off 16 sts., work in patt. to end of row.
Continue in patt. dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 2 sts. remain.
Cast off.
The Right Front
Using larger needles, cast on 47 stitches.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st., K1.
Rep. 1st row five times. Proceed as follows:
1st row: (K1, P1) three times, * K1, P2, K3, P2, rep. from * to last st., K1.
2nd row: K3, * P3, K2, P1, K2, rep. from * to last 12 sts., P3, K3, (P1, K1) three times.
Keeping continuity of patt., work to correspond with Left Front, working border and shapings at opposite ends of needle.
The Back
Using larger needles, cast on 81 stitches.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st., K1.
Rep. 1st row five times. Proceed as follows:
** 1st row: * K1, P2, K3, P2, rep. from * to last st., K1.
2nd row: K3, * P3, K2, P1, K2, rep. from * to last 6 sts., P3, K3.
3rd row: Like 1st row.
4th row: Like 2nd row.
5th row: * K1, P2, slip 1, K2, psso, P2, rep. from * to to last st., K1.
6th row: K3, * P1, yo, P1, K2, P1, K2, rep. from * to last 5 sts., P1, yo, P1, K3. **
Rep. from ** to ** ten times.
Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows, then dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 33 sts. remain .
Work 1 row without shaping. Cast off.
The Sleeves
Using smaller needles, cast on 41 stitches.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from* to last st., K1.
Rep. 1st row twelve times.
14th row: (K1, P1) twice, * inc. once in next st., P1, rep. from * to last 5 sts., (K1, P1) twice., K1 (57 sts.)
Using larger needles, work as given from ** to ** for Back nine times.
Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows, then dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 9 sts. remain.
Work 1 row without shaping. Cast off.
Work another Sleeve in same manner.
The Neckband
Using a flat seam, sew up front and back raglan sleeve seams.
With right side of work facing and using smaller needles, knit up 102 sts. evenly round neck.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.
2nd row: K2, * yo, K2tog, rep. from * to end of row.
3rd row: Like 1st row. Cast off in rib.
To Make Up Jacket
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew up side and sleeve seams.
Thread ribbon through holes at neck. Finally, press all seams.
