This is a handy pattern for your own designs with long articles like rugs.
You will need 37 granny circles for each row.
To sew your first row:
Sew circles 1 and 2 together with 8 stitches. Skip 8sts on circle 2 and sew the next 8sts to circle 3.
Skip 12 stitches on circle 3, and sew the next 8sts to circle 4.
Skip 8sts on circle 4 and sew the next 8sts to circle 5.
Skip 4sts on circle 5 and sew the next 8sts to circle 6.
Continue, following the diagrams below, until you have joined all 37 granny circles. There will be 9 circles in the top position (like circle 3), and 8 circles in the bottom position (like circle 5).
To add your second row:
First, sew a second row together, as you did for your first row.
Position circle 1 of the second row above circle 1 of the first row.
Count 8sts from the join on the bottom of the second row, and 4sts from the join on the bottom row.
Sew the first 4sts on the top row, to the first 4sts on the bottom row.
Sew the other 4sts on circle 1 of the second row to 4sts of circle 2 on the first row.
Sew circle 2 of second row to circles 2 and 3 of the first row.
Sew circle 3 of the second to row to circle 3 of the first row with 4sts.
4sts are used to join all rows from here on.
Sew circle 4 of the second row to circles 3 and 4 of the first row.
Sew circle 5 of the second row to circles 4, 5 and 6 of the first row.
Continue across row as above.
Sew any other strips as explained for the second row.
