This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on
Materials
- Clark’s O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 2 balls of Red.
- Clark’s O.N.T. or J . & P. Coats Six Strand Embroidery Floss , 1 skein of Black.
- Steel Crochet Hook US No. 6/1.8mm
Pattern
Face
(Make 2 Pieces)
With Pearl Cotton, ch 9.
1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 6 ch, 3 sc in last ch; then working along opposite side of foundation chain, work sc in 6 ch, 2 sc in last ch. Do not join rnds.
2nd rnd: 2 sc in next sc, sc in 6 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in 6 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc.
3rd rnd: 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in 8 sc, 2 sc in next 5 sc, sc in 8 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc.
Continue thus, working sc in each sc, increasing as necessary at both ends to keep work flat, until piece measures 6½ inches the long way.
Fasten off.
Horns
(Make 4)
With Pearl Cotton, ch 15.
1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Skip 1 sc, sc in next sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd row until no sts remain. Fasten off.
Finishing
With 1 full strand of Black Floss, embroider features in chain stitch as in illustration.
PAD – Cut flannel, muslin or any soft material, slightly smaller than crocheted pieces. Place between crochet, tacking to wrong side of one piece.
Insert pad, and join pieces with neat over and over stitches.
Sew 2 Horn pieces together along edges and attach to Face.
Work sc closely over ring and sew to pot holder.
