Tree Potholder

Potholder in the shape of a pine tree cpovered in snow

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

“Puritan” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 40 1-200 yd. Ball Green and
“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5 1-50 yd. Ball White.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm

Pattern

With Green, ch 70, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn (68 dc).

2nd Row: Sl st to next dc, ch 3 and work 1 dc in each dc omitting the last dc, thus decreasing 2 dc in row.

Repeat the 2nd row 5 times, ch 5, break thread.

8th Row: Attach White at opposite end and work 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, * thread over needle, insert needle in top of next 5t of 6th row and work off as a dc, skip the st in back of the dc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, dc in top of corresponding st of 6th row, skip the st in back of the dc, sc in next st, tr c in top of next sc of 5th row. skip the st in back of tr c, sc in next st, dc in top of corresponding st of 6th row, skip the st in back of dc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, repeat from * 4 times, dc in top of se of 6th row, skip the st in back of dc, 1 sc in each remaining dc, break White.

9th Row: Attach Green in 1st sc of last row, ch 7, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, then work 1 dc in each 5t across row working 1 dc in each st of ch at end of row, turn.

10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Rows: Decrease 1 dc at beginning of each row and 2 dc at end of each row, then ch 4, break thread.

16th Row: Attach White at opposite end and work 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, * dc in top of st of 2nd row below, skip the st in back of the dc, sc in next dc, tr c in top of st of 3rd row below, skip the st in back of the tr c, sc in next st, dc in top of st of 2nd row below, skip the st in back of dc,

1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, repeat from * across row, break White.

17th Row: Attach Green in 1st sc of last row, ch 6, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 2 scs of ch, then work 1 dc in each st across row and 1 dc in each st of ch at end of row.

Repeat the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th rows.

Next 5 Rows: Decrease 2 dc at beginning and 2 dc at end of each row, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: Sl st into each of the next 6 dc, ch 3 and work 1 dc in each of the next 12 dc, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: Sl st into each of the next 2 sts, ch 3 and work 1 dc in each of the next 8 dc, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: Sl st into each of the next 2 sts, ch 3 and work 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, turn.

Next Row: * Thread over needle, insert in next st, pull through, repeat from * twice, thread over and pull through all loops on needle at one time, break thread.

Fold in half and mark center st at lower edge for trunk.

Attach Green in 4th st from center, ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 7 sts, ch 3, turn.

Next 2 Rows: 1 dc in each dc, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

With White, crochet the 2 sections together with a row of sc working a 4 ch picot at each point.

With White, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to holder.
