THrn rose potholder

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

American Thread Company “Puritan” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 40 1-250 yd. Ball White and

“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5 1-50 yd. Ball Red.

2-50 yd. Balls Green will make 2 potholders.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.

Pattern

With White, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 5, dc in ring, * ch 2, dc in ring, repeat from * 5 times, ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch.

2nd Row: * Ch 4, sc in next dc, repeat from * all around (8 loops), break thread.

3rd Row: Attach Green in loop, * ch 7, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sdc in each of the next 2 scs of ch, (sdc: thread over needle, insert in space, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time) 1 dc in each of the next 3 scs of ch, sc in next loop, repeat from * all around.

4th Row: 1 sc in each of the 5 scs on side of leaf, 3 sc in point of leaf, 5 sc down other side of leaf, repeat from beginning all around, join, break thread.

5th Row: Attach White in point of leaf, 3 sc in same space, * 1 sdc in each of the next 2 sc, dc in next sc, thread over needle twice, insert needle in last sc on side of leaf and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in 1st sc on side of next leaf and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc, 1 sdc in each of the next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc (top of leaf), repeat from * all around in same manner, join.

6th Row: Ch 3, * 3 dc in next sc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * all around in same manner, join in 3rd st of ch, break white.

7th Row: Attach Green at center st at point, ch 1 and work 3 sc in same space, * 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, ch 9, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sdc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts of ch, skip 1 st of previous row, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, 3 sc in next st, repeat from * all around in same manner, join.

8th Row: Ch 1 and work 1 sc in same space, 1 sc in each of the next 6 sc, * skip 1 sc and work 7 sc up side of leaf, 3 sc in point of leaf, 7 sc down other side of leaf, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 11 sc, repeat from * all around in same manner ending row with 1 sc in each of the last 4 sc, join, break thread.

9th Row: Attach White in center st at point of leaf and work 3 sc in same space, * sc in next sc, 1 sdc in each of the 3 sc, dc in next sc, thread over needle twice, skip 2 sc, insert in next sc, pull through, thread over and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in next sc, pull through and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc, sdc in next sc, sc in next sc, sdc in next sc, dc in next sc, skip 2 sc, thread over needle twice, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in next sc, pull through and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc on side of next leaf, 1 sdc in each of the next 3 sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around in same manner, join.

10th Row: Ch 3 and work 3 dc in center st at top of each leaf and 1 dc in each remaining St.

11th Row: Ch 3, ** 3dc in next st (point), 1 dc in each of the next 10 sts, * thread over needle, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from *, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a decrease at base of scallop), 1 dc in each of the next 9 dc, repeat from ** all around in same manner.

12th Row: Same as 10th row.

13th Row: Same as last row but decreasing 1 st at base of each scallop between leaves, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

With Green, crochet the 2 sections together as follows: ch 3, 2 dc in same space, * skip 1 st, sc in next st, skip 1 st, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * all around, break thread.

With Green, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to potholder as illustrated.
