Slip Potholder

Potholder in the shape of an old fashioned dress slip

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346 1-300 yd. Ball White and
“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5 1-50 yd. Ball Red or any contrasting color.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.

Pattern

With White, ch 30, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 3, turn (28 d c).

2nd Row: Decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease * thread over needle, insert in next sc, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from *, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 dc in each of the next 9 dc, decrease in next 2 sts, ch 3, turn.

3rd, 4th and 5th Rows: Decrease 1 dc at beginning and end of each row, ch 3, turn.

6th Row: * Thread over needle, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from * 4 times, thread over and pull through all 6 loops on needle at one time, break thread.

Attach thread in next st at center of 1st row and work other from in same manner, break thread .

Next Row: Start Skirt

Attach thread in 1st st of ch at waist, ch 3, 1 dc in each st, ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: 2 dc in same space, * 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * 5 times, 1 dc in next st, 3 dc in end st, ch 3 to turn each row.

3rd Row: 1 dc in each dc (38 d c).

Next 4 Rows: Increase 1 dc at beginning and end of each row.

8th Row: Increase in 1st st * 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * 7 times, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2 dc in end st (56 d c).

9th Row: Work even.

Next 4 Rows: Increase 1 dc at beginning and end of each row.

14th Row: Work even.

15th Row: Increase 1 dc at beginning and end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows once.

18th Row: Work even in dc increasing 1 dc across row ( 69 d c) ch 3, turn.

19th Row: Ruffle 1 dc in same space, ch 1, 2 dc in same space, *skip 3 dc, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc (shell) in next dc, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.

20th Row: Shell in center of shell, * shell in center of next shell, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.

Repeat the last row once, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

With Red, crochet the 2 sections together across ruffle as follows: starting at side of ruffle, sc in same space,  ch 1, skip 1/4 inch space,  3 dc in next space,  ch 1, skip 1/4 inch space,  sc in next space,  ch 1, 3 dc in center of shell,  * ch 1, sc between shells,  ch 2, sc over the 2 loops of previous row working through both sections,  ch 2, sc over the 2 loops of 19th row, ch 2, turn and work back in same manner,  ch 1, 3 dc in center of next shell,  repeat from * across lower edge, then work up side of ruffle same as opposite side, break Red.

Attach White, sc in same space,  * 3 dc in next row, sc in next row,  repeat from * up side, around V line of neck and down opposite side, break thread.

Straps

With White, ch 26 and work 25 sc on ch, break thread.

Attach Red, * ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around entire strap, break thread.

Work another strap in same manner and sew to top of each shoulder as illustrated.

With White, cover a bone ring with sc and sew in position to back.
