Acorn shaped potholder

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

American Thread Company “Puritan” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 40: 1-250 yd. Ball Cream and
“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5: 4-50 yd. Balls Green will make the Acorn and Leaf Potholders.

Cotton or Kapok for filling.

Steel Crochet Hook US No 8/1.15mm or US No 9/1.25mm

Pattern

With Cream, ch 36, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch (ch 3 counts as 1 dc in each row), ch 3 to
turn each row.

2nd and 3rd Rows: Working in dc, increase 3 dc at beginning and end of each row.

4th and 5th Rows: Increase 2 dc at beginning and end of each row.

Next 14 Rows: Work even, break thread.

Cap

Attach Green in last dc, ch 5, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in next st of ch, dc in next dc, popcorn st in next st,
(popcorn sc: 5 dc in same space, drop loop off hook, insert hook in 1st dc and pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st)
* 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, popcorn sc in next sc, repeat from * 16 times,  dc in next dc,  tr c in same space with last dc, work 2 more tr c working each tr c into lower loop of previous st (an increase),  ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Work 1 sc in each sc, ch 3, turn (60 sc).

3rd Row: Popcorn st in next st,  * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, popcorn sc in next st, repeat from * 18 times, dc in last st, ch 1, turn.

4th Row: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn.

5th Row: Sl st over 1st 4 sc, popcorn st in next st,  * 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * 16 times, ch 1, turn.

6th Row: 1 sc in each st (52 sc), ch 1, turn.

7th Row: Slip st over the 1st 3 sc, popcorn st in next st,  * 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, popcorn st in next st,
repeat from * 14 times, ch 1, turn.

8th Row: 1 sc in each st (46 sc), ch 1, turn.

9th Row: Slip St over the 1st 3 sts, popcorn sc in next st, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * 12 times, ch 1, turn.

10th Row: 1 sc in each st (40 sc), ch 1, turn.

11th Row: Slip st over the 1st 6 sts, popcorn st in next st, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * 8 times, break thread.

With right side of work toward you, attach Cream in 1st dc of 1st row, ch 1 and working across lower edge, work 1 sc in each of the 1st 9 scs,  1 sdc in each of the next 3 sts, (sdc: thread over needle insert in st, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time)  1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, l tr c in each of the next 2 sts,  1 d tr c (3 times over needle) in each of the next 2 sts,  1 tr c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 scs, 1 s dc in each of the next 3 scs.  1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

Crochet the 2 sections together with a row of sc using Cream on lower sections, pad lightly with cotton or kapok, crochet top sections together in same manner with Green.

With Green, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to top of holder.
