Leaflet 32 in the Needlework Development Scheme’s series “And So To Embroider” covers designing from underwater animals and plants. The samples include:
- A thread holder for the classroom with simple fish border
- A felt chair pad designed from sketches of underwater sea life including urchins and star fish
- A table cloth with simple, stylised design
- An example of the way water was worked in a traditional Chinese Mandarin’s coat
- Two samples of the way a fish design can be translated from sketch into embroidery – canvas work and a design worked on poplin.
New stitches introduced in this bulletin are:
- Honeycomb filling stitch
- Open couched filling
- Bullion Stitch
