Flower Looms: The African Flower Crochet Motif with a Flower Loom Centre

The crocheted african flower motif with a loomed flower center

This pattern uses UK crochet terms. The video above explains the method using both UK and US terms.

UK treble = US double crochet

UK double crochet = US single crochet

Method:

Make a flower on a 3 1/4 to 3 1/2" loom. Wind six times using the layered wrap technique and stitch an open centre.

Round 1: Put the back two loops of two petals onto your hook and join the yarn.

Chain 3, treble into the same loops of the petals, chain 2, 2 treble in the same loops.

* put the back 2 loops of the next 2 petals onto your hook, 2 treble, 2 chain, 2 treble into the smae loops; repeat from * four more times to complete the round. Join to the 3rd chain at the begiining of the round with a slip stitch.

Round 2: Slip stitch into the next 2 chain space, work 6 trebles into the same space.

Work 7 treble stitches into each 2 chain space around the flower. Join to the beginning of the round with a slip stitch.

Round 3: Join a contrasting colour to the first treble of any petal. Chain 1. Work a double crochet into each of the next 6 treble stitches.

* yarn round hook, put the hook into the space between petals on the first round, yarn round hook, pull through to the front, yrh pull through 2 loops, yrh, pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook (one long treble made), work one double crochet into each of the next 7 treble stitches;

repeat from * four more times, one long treble, join with a slip stitch to the beginning of the round.

Round 4: Join a contrasting colour to the first double crochet made after a long treble.

3 chain, 1 treble in the top of the next three double crochet, chain 2, 1 treble into the same dc as the last treble, 1 treble into each of the next 3 double crochet, chain 1;

*skip the long stitch, 1 treble in the top of the next 4 double crochet, chain 2, 1 treble into the same dc as the last treble, 1 treble into each of the next 3 double crochet, chain 1; repeat from * four more times. Join to the beginning of the round with a slip stitch.
