When you purl the stitch after the cable, try wrapping the wool around the needle in the opposite way that you normally would. For instance, I usually wrap the wool front to back over the top, then underneath bringing it forward and pull through. If I wrap the wool around from the front to the back and go underneath then pull through, I actually use fractionally less wool so the stitch is tighter
