Oddball Sampler Afghan Square #8: Celtic Braid

Celtic Braid Afghan Square

Materials

I used 50gm of Patons Fireside 8ply 100% Wool in mauve (colour 3143)

Tension

20sts and 28 rows to 4 inches (10cm) over st st on 4.5mm needles, or needles
needed to obtain gauge.

Abbreviations

Cable 4 Back = C4B, Cable 4 Back: Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 stitches from left hand needle, then knit stitches from cable needle

Cable 4 Front = C4F, Cable 4 Front: Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 2 stitches from left hand needle, then knit stitches from cable needle

Back Twist 4 = BT4, Back Twist 4: Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold at back of work, K2, P2 from cable needle.

Front Twist 4 = FT4, Front Twist 4: Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold at front of work, P2, K2 from cable needle.

Back Twist 3 = BT3, Back Twist 3: Slip 1 st to cable needle and hold at back of work, K2, P1 from cable needle.

Front Twist 3 = FT3, Front Twist 3: Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold at front of work, P1, K2 from cable needle.

Technique

Note: Cables are worked on a background of reverse stocking stitch, shown here shaded grey.

Cast on 62sts,

Work chart through 4 times, (row one is a wrong side row so begin reading from left to right)

Work row one once more, cast off, making cables as in row 2.
