PVA glue
Glitter
Plastic gem-stone (optional)
Hot glue gun (optional)
Oddments of ribbon
Acrylic paint to match tulle, but in a darker shade. Eg, if your tulle is pink and lilac you would use red and purple
2 1/2 cm (1 inch) wide elastic to fit comfortably around your child's waist.
Sewing thread to match the tulle.
30cm (12 inches) of 5mm (1/4 inch) wide ribbon
Nappy pin
5cm (2 inch) wide ribbon for your child's hair
Using the hot glue gun stick the gemstone to the centre front of the wand.
Paint the remainder of the front of the wand with PVA glue and sprinkle with glitter. Leave to dry thoroughly.
Finish with a coat of PVA glue, omitting the gemstone.
Tie ribbon oddments to the base of the wand and glue in place.
Measure your child around the waist and double the measurement. This is the width of all the rectangles of tulle you will be cutting.
Measure your child from the waist to the floor. This is the height of the first piece of tulle you will cut out. Cut this from your first colour.
The second piece you cut should be the same width as the first, but the height will be 2/3 of the first piece. Cut this from your second colour of tulle.
Finally, the third piece you cut is the same width as the other two pieces, but is 1/3 the height of the first piece. Cut this from your first colour of tulle.
Place the first piece on a flat surface and put the second piece on top, matching one long edge. Place the third piece on top of this and pin in place. Sew along the top of the skirt 2 inches in from the edge using a short straight st.
Sew another line 1 1/2 inches (3 1/2cm) down from this.
Fold the fabric in half widthways, with right sides together, and sew the side seam.
Fold right way out and cut the bottom of each layer of fabric into medium size points .
Using your fingers, apply acrylic paint to the tip of each point and leave to dry. Add glitter when dry if you wish.
Cut a slit in the elastic casing either side of the side seam and thread elastic through, tying ends together loosely. Put the skirt on your child and adjust the elastic to fit, making sure it fits easily over the hips.
Measure your child from the base of the neck to the waist. This is the height of the piece of tulle you will need.
Using these measurements cut a rectangle of tulle.
Gather in the centre using the piece of ribbon and tie in a bow.
Fasten the pin onto the ribbon, making sure you also go through the tulle and use this pin the fasten the wings onto your child's top.
