| Here are a few unusual cleaning recipes that I've picked up along the
way that I thought were very interesting. I haven't tried them all, but
I've been assured that they work!
Removing the Residue Left by Price Stickers
To remove the sticky residue left by price stickers from non porous surfaces,
dip a soft cloth into some peanut butter (smooth, not crunchy!) and rub
the sticky mark in various directions. The oil from the peanut butter
should remove the sticky residue without damaging the finish on non porous
surfaces such as metal, enamel, and paint.
Cleaning Glass
To clean glass to a sparkling finish mix one quarter of a cup of ammonia
in a bucket of water. Wash your glass in the mix and dry immediately.
This mix is also great for washing windows.
Removing Rust
To remove rust from old metal work rub with fine steel wool dipped in
vegetable oil. The finer the steel wool used, the less noticeable any
scratches will be.
Removing Tarnish from Old Copper and Brass
To remove tarnish from copper and brass work, while retaining it's aged
charm, lemon and salt can be used. Add a little lemon juice to a small
pile of salt, take a cloth and polish the copper or brass. After removing
the tarnish, rinse, and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Cleaning Enamel
To clean enamel surfaces without damaging the enamel use a mixture of
baking soda and a little water. Rub the surface with the mix and any brown
stains and dirt should be removed.
In the Bathroom
To clean tub and tile without nasty chemicals, make a paste of cream of
tartar and white vinegar and apply with a sponge.
