Materials

USE No. 80 mercer crochet cotton.

Abbreviations

  • Ds, double stitch;
  • p, picot;
  • ch, chain;
  • sep, separated;
  • rep, repeat;
  • r, ring;
  • med, medallion.

Commence as follows

Top Medallion

With shuttle and ball thread ring 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds, close.

Ch 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds

R 3 ds, p, 3 ds, join to 4th p of last r, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, close.

Ch 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 els, 3 ds.

Rep until you have 7 r and ch.

Join, tie and cut (taking care to join 4th p of 7th r to 2nd p of 1st r).

Second Medallion

R 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds, close.

Ch 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds.

R 3 ds, p, 3 ds, join to 4th p of last r,
3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, close.

Ch same as last.

Next Ring: Same as last and in all future rings.

Ch 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, join to middle p of one of the ch of 1st medallion, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 3 ds.

Next ch 3 ds, 7 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds.

Rep this ch until you complete medallion (7 rings and chains), tie and cut.

Third Medallion

R as in previous med.

Ch 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, join to middle p of a ch (leaving one free ch between) to the 1st med.

Three ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds.

Now do 2 more ch of 5 ps sep by 3 ds.

Then 4 more ch of 7 ps sep by 3 ds. Tie and cut.

Now do the little four leaf clover which joins the med.

R 8 ds, p, 8 ds, close.

R 8 ds, join to last med made by the middle p of the middle ch (of the 5 p ch) , 8 ds, close.

R 8 ds, join to 1st med made by the middle p, 8 ds, close.

R 8 ds, join to 2nd med in like manner, 8 ds, close.

Fourth Medallion

R as in others, ch 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, join to middle p of the remaining 5 p ch, 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds.

Ch 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, join to the free r of the four leaf clover, 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds.

Ch 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds, join to 2nd med made in like manner, 3 ds, 2 ps sep by 3 ds.

Continue doing four more bars of 7 ps sep by 3 ds, join, tie and cut.

This completes the corner.

Any edging may be joined to this corner, but the directions for the one used are as follows:

R 3 ds, 5 ps sep by 3 ds, 3 ds, close.

Ch 3 ds, join to 4th p of 2nd ch from top, 3 ds, 4 ps sep 3 ds, 3 ds.
