Vintage hand knit chevron and striped scarf

This pattern was originally published in the Launceston Examiner on August 5th, 1933

I have updated the knitting language used and clarified some instructions.

Materials

3.75mm needles

The original pattern calls for an unstated amount of fingering weight silk in beige, brown, green and orange. You can use wool or other yarns to make this scarf. A fingering weight bamboo such as these in the Ravelry database would probably be very nice and closest to the original silk used if you

Bind off. (If you would prefer to graft the two pieces together, leave the remaining stitches on a stitch holder or spare needle instead).

Making Up

Work another strip in the same manner. Join the cast off edges together neatly on the wrong side, matching the join with the right shade of silk. You may graft them together if desired instead of casting off. Press seam. Turn down side edges of scarf and hem down neatly (note: this probably isn’t necessary). Press on wrong side with warm iron over a damp cloth.
