Materials and Size

Patons Beehive Baby Wool or Patons Baby Wool with Nylon

The Vest

16 inch underarm – 2 balls

Length from top of shoulder – 10½ ins.

The Knickers

Length at centre front, 9 ins – 1 ball

Knitting Needles, 1 pair No. 10/3.25mm/US 3

Fine Crochet Hook.

Two Small Buttons.

Length of Ribbon for Knickers.

Tension

8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.

The Front

Cast on 66 stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row once.

Proceed as follows:

Patt. A.

** 1st row: K1, K2tog, K3, * yo, K3, K3tog, K3, rep. from * to last 6 sts, yo, K3, K2tog, K1.

2nd row: K1, P4, * yo, P8, rep. from * to last 6 sts, yo, P5, K1.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once, then 1st row once.

6th row: K5, * yo, K8, rep. from * to last 6 sts, yo, K6. **

2nd and alt. rows: K1, purl to last st., K1.

Plain Vest

** 1st row: Knit.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st., K1. **

All Vests

Rep. from ** to ** until work measures 7 ins. from commencement, finishing so that right side of work will be facing when working next row.

Proceed as follows:

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row until work measures 9 ins. from commencement.

Next row: Work 20 sts in rib, cast off 26 sts, work in rib to end of row.

Continue in rib on last 20 sts until work measures 10½ ins. from commencement.

Cast off in rib.

Join in wool and work on remaining sts to correspond with other side.

The Back

Work exactly as given for Front.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up right shoulder and side seams.

Sew up left shoulder for ½ an inch.

Using Crochet Hook, work 2 rows of dc (US single crochet) round shoulder opening, making 2 button loops in 2nd
row on front shoulder.

Using Crochet Hook, work picot edge round neck and armholes as follows:

1st row: 1 dc into each st., turn

2nd row: * 4 ch, sl st back into 1st ch, 3 dc into next 3 dc, rep. from * to end of row.

Sew on buttons to correspond with loops. Finally, press all seams.

The Knickers

The Back

Cast on 30 stitches.

1st row: Knit.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st., K1. Continue in stocking stitch, inc. once at each end of needle in every row until there are 84 sts for Patt. A.; 82 sts for Patt. B. and Plain Knickers on needle.

Patt. A. only – K1, purl to last st., K1.

Work as given from ** to ** for Vest,

Patt. A seven times, Patt. B five times, Plain, twenty-nine times. ***

Proceed as follows:

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row once.

Shape back as follows:

1st row: Work 51 sts in rib, turn.

2nd row: Work 20 sts in rib, turn.

3rd row: Work 30 sts in rib, turn.

4th row: Work 40 sts in rib, turn.

5th row: Work 50 sts in rib, turn.

6th row: Work 60 sts in rib, turn.

7th row: Work in rib to end of row.

8th row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row,

Rep. 8th row six times.

15th row: K2, * yo, K2tog, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 8th row three times. Cast off loosely in rib.

The Front

Work as given for Back to ***.

Proceed as follows:

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row nine times.

11th row: K2, * yo, K2tog rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 1st row three times.

Cast off loosely in rib.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up side and lower edge seams.

Using Crochet Hook, work picot edging round legs as given for Vest.

Thread ribbon through holes at waist. Finally, press all seams.
