Panties Potholder

Potholder in the shape of a pair of vintage bloomers

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346: 1-300 yd. Ball White
  • “Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5: 1-50 yd. Ball Red or any contrasting color.
  • Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.

Pattern

With White ch 74, join being careful not to twist ch, ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 17 sts of ch,  1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next st of ch,  1 dc in each of the next 36 sts of ch, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 d c in next st of ch,  1 dc in each of the next 18 sts of ch, join in
3rd st of ch.

2nd Row: Ch 3 (the ch 3 at beginning of row always counts as 1 d c),  1 dc in each of the next 18 dc,  1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next 1 ch loop (increasing point), 1 dc in each of the next 38 dc,  1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next 1 ch loop (increasing point), 1 dc in each of the next 19 dc, join each row.

3rd Row: Ch 3 and work 1 dc in each dc and 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of the 1 ch loops of the 2 increasing points.

Repeat the 3rd row 9 times.

13th Row: START LEGS: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 29 dc, 1 dc in the ch 1 loop, skip 60 dc, dc in next 1 ch loop,
1 dc in each of the next 30 dc, join (62 d c).

14th Row: Ch 3 and work 1 dc in each dc, join. Repeat the 14th row 4 more times.

19th Row: Ch 3, dc in same space, ch 1, 2 dc in same space, skip 2 dc, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc,  * skip 3 dc, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc (shell) in next dc, repeat from * 13 times, join in 3rd st of ch.

20th Row: Sl st to center of shell, shell in same space, * shell in center of next shell, repeat from * all around, join.

Repeat the 20th row twice, break thread.

Attach thread at increasing point and work 1 dc in each dc and 1 dc in next increasing point, join and complete leg same as opposite leg.

Beading

Attach White at top of panties, ch 4,  skip 1 st, dc in next st,  * ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st,  repeat from * all around, join, break thread.

Attach Red and work 1 sc in each mesh and 1 sc in each dc, join, break thread.

Attach Red at lower edge and work same as lower edge of slip but working over each of the 4 rows between shells and around entire leg.

Finish other leg in same manner.

Lace ribbon through beading.

Cover a bone ring in sc and attach to top of holder as illustrated.
