Tension

To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 1 treble group ¾ inches in height.

Pattern

Commencing at centre, make 5 ch, join into a ring with sc.

1st round: 8 dc into ring, join with sc into top of first dc

2nd round: * 5 ch, miss 1 dc, 1 dc in 1 dc, rep from * three times (forming four loops), slip stitch to centre ch of first loop.

3rd round: 5 ch, * 1 dc into same (the corner) st, (the dc must be worked into centre st of loops (not under) throughout), 5 ch, 1 dc into next loop, 5 ch, rep from * to end of round, joining rounds by working 1 dc into last slip stitch of previous round, slip stitch to centre of corner loop.

Rep. 3rd round, working into each loop at sides and twice into each corner st, until ten rounds have been worked and there are eight loops between corner loops in last round.

11th round: 3 ch (standing for first tr), 3 tr into same st, 3 ch, 1 tr into top of last tr, 4 tr into same st as last group of tr, 5 ch, *1 dc into next loop, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc into next loop, 5 ch, rep from * along  each side, but working 4 tr into corner loop, 3 ch, 1 tr in top of last tr, 4 tr in same st as last group of tr, 5 ch; work each corner in this manner and at end of round, join last 5 ch of side to first 4 tr with sc, and slip stitch to space between 2nd and 3rd tr

12th round: 5 ch, 1 dc into corner loop, 5 ch, 1 dc into same loop, 5 ch, 1 dc between the 2nd and 3rd tr of next group, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, * 5 ch, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, rep from * along each side, working corners like first, commencing each corner with 5 ch, and 1 dc into space between 2nd and 3rd tr of corner groups, join round with 5 ch, 1 dc into loop before corner loop.

13th round: 4 tr into corner st, 3 ch, 1 tr in top of last tr, 4 tr in same st as last group of tr, 1 dc in next loop, 5 ch, * 1 dc in next loop along round, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in next loop, 5 ch, rep from * along sides, then work 1 dc into loop before corner loop and work corners like first (the tr groups will come between those of 11th round), ending round by joining the 5 ch to first of 4 tr with sc, and slip stitching to space between 2nd and 3rd tr

Rep. 12th and 13th rounds ten times.

34th round: 5 ch, 1 dc into corner loop, 5 ch, 1 dc into same loop, 5 ch, 1 dc between 2nd and 3rd tr of next group, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in next loop, * 5 ch, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in next loop, rep from * along each side, working corners like first, commencing each corner with 5 ch and 1 dc into space between 2nd and 3rd tr of corner groups, ending round with 5 ch, 1 dc into loop before corner loop.

35th round: 4 tr in corner st, 3 ch, 1 tr in top of last tr, 4 tr in same st as last group of tr, 1 dc in next loop, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, * 5 ch, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 tr in next dc, 1 dc in 3rd tr of next group, 5 ch, 1 dc in next loop, 5 ch, I dc in next loop, rep from * along each side, working corners like first, ending round with 1 sc into first of 4 tr instead of loop, slip-stitching to space between 2nd and 3rd tr

46th round: 1 tr in first tr, * 4 ch, 1 dc in first of 4 ch, 1 tr in next tr, rep from * over each group of tr and work 1 dc (without any ch) in each loop.

Fasten off.
