Wire Knitted Bangle

Wire Knitted Bangle

Pattern by Labond
Knitting wire and bead bangles is a good introduction to knitting with wire.

Materials

28 gauge craft wire
Around 200 seed beads
Larger accent bead for making fastening
3.5mm knitting needles (bamboo is best)
Wire cutters

Pattern

Thread the seed beads on to craft wire before you begin.

Cast on 11 stitches, leave a long tail (about 1m) for making the fastening later.

Knit all rows, adding beads at random. The bangle will sit more snugly on your arm if you add the beads every second row.

When the bangle is long enough to reach around your wrist, cast off all stitches, again leaving a long tail.

To make up

Loop

Wind end of wire neatly around cast off edge until you reach the middle of the row.

Make 2 small loops by winding wire twice around a finger.

Strengthen the loops by winding wire around them until you have one loop.

Twist the loop a couple of times to strengthen it.

Continue to wind end of wire neatly around cast off edge until you reach end of row. Secure by winding around a couple of times or by passing through an adjacent bead.

Bead fastening

Wind end of wire neatly around cast on edge until you reach the middle of the row. Pass wire through bead and secure it to cast on edge by winding it around a couple of times. Continue to wind end of wire neatly around cast off edge until you reach end of row. Secure by winding around a couple of times or by passing through an adjacent bead.

Hints and tips

  • For a neat cast on, use the two-strand method.
  • Add beads by allowing the bead to fall to the front of a fairly tight tension, especially at edges.
  • Try experimenting with different sizes and colours of beads, or knitting a bangle with fewer or more stitches.
