Slip Knot
From KnitWiki
Most knitting begins with a slip knot placed on one needle.
To make a slip knot, make a loop with working end of the yarn, with it laying over the top of the tail end. Slide the working end under the loop and pull it up through the loop, pulling on the tail end until the first loop is tightened around the second loop.
The size of this loop can be adjusted because the working end slides through the “knot” created around it by the tail end.
