You will need to know how to make a thumb gusset to fit your hand in order to use this pattern.

Cast on a number of stitches evenly divisible by 11 and join for knitting in the round. The original pattern has you cast on 77sts for 7 repeats of the pattern. Note: after the second row, the stitch repeat becomes 13 stitches wide. The stitch count then changes on each row, returning to 13 stitches after row 11.

Rows 3 – 12 form the pattern. Repeat these 10 rows for the desired length before beginning the increases for your thumb gusset.

End the section below the thumb gusset of your mitt on round 11.

If you cast on 77sts for your mitt as recommended in the original pattern, work 5 columns of hearts (2 1/2 repeats of the stitch pattern) up the centre back of your mitt. Knit the rest in plain stocking stitch.

You will need to finish on row 11 for the stitch count to be correct before working the top edge of your mitt in your desired manner.
