KnitWiki talk:Community Portal
From KnitWiki
Suggestion: The section on this page "How to find..." should be on the home page. As a novice user of this wiki, it's what I *wanted* to see on the home page to help me become familiar with this wiki. (I'd move it myself, but I've just arrived here and don't yet know how things are done.) --Hrynkiw 09:23, 25 November 2008 (PST)
- But the first thing it says on the main page is to find out where everything is and how things are done, visit the community portal. Sarah Bradberry 14:01, 25 November 2008 (PST)
- Respectfully, the first thing the main page says is when the wiki was started, followed by how to contribute, a heading, and a description of the purpose of the wiki. The reference to Where Things Are is embedded/hidden in text and the functional link is at the far end of the line. It's well hidden. :-)
- Seriously, it doesn't have that much written on it. I'm sure it doesn't take long to read. Sarah Bradberry
- Traditionally the Community Portal area of a wiki is used by the wiki team for discussion surrounding defining standards of how the wiki is developed. --Hrynkiw 19:59, 2 October 2009 (PDT)
Suggestion: Having to enter the Captcha text every time one edits a page is annoying and slows the editing process considerably. Would it be possible to instead require an account in order to edit a page, and put the Captcha on the account creation process instead? --Hrynkiw 19:59, 2 October 2009 (PDT)
- I tried that but there was still so much spamming going on that I had to do it the way it is now. I'm sorry that it's annoying but I had several hundred spam accounts signed up that I had to clean out and spam pages/edits every day. It's not great but it's the best I could come up with considering my limited technical knowledge, time and financial means.
