Crochet Edging

Please note: These are the original edging instructions from the pattern rewritten in modern crochet terms. You will need to either work the front bands, then the bottom and neck separately in order to stop the corners from curling over, or make adjustments to the pattern and work increases around the corners.

Beginning at the back neck, work 1dc (UK treble crochet), 2ch around the neck, down the fronts and around the bottom of the cardigan.

If you do not wish to work out how to turn corners in pattern, work the next two rows on the front bands first, followed by the bottom and neck. If you are in the round, begin the next row by making a slip stitch into the first 2ch space.

2nd row: Work 1dc in the first 2ch space, *(2dc, 2ch, 2dc) in the next 2 ch space, 1 dc in the next chain space; repeat from * around.

3rd row: Work a sc on the dc of the previous row, *1ch, 7dc in 2ch space, (4dc, 1ch, 1sc) in the next dc; repeat from * all the way around.

After you have finished the bands, bottom and neck, work the crochet edging around the bottom of the sleeves.

Run a narrow ribbon through the first row of crochet all the way around, or just around the neck and sleeves if you prefer. Note, if you are making this jacket for a toddler to wear (as opposed to a doll), you will need to stitch the ribbon firmly to the jacket at the centre back of the neck.
