Help:Stitch Categories
From KnitWiki
The Official List of Stitch Categories for the KnitWiki Project
When you add a new stitch pattern to the KnitWiki, please list it in one or more of the following stitch categories by adding the following text at the bottom of your instructions:
[[Category:Name| Stitch name]]
replacing Category:Name with one of the options from the list below, and Stitch name with the name of the stitch you have added.
Also note the UK spelling of the word colour and travelling used in the category names. I can't help it. You never know when your old highschool English teacher might take up knitting and read your wiki... (~~cough~~).
| Category Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Category:Simple_Stitches | Everyday basic stitches such as garter, stocking stitch, plain ribs, simple knit/purl combinations |
| Category:Bobbles | Anything bobbly! Bobbles, popcorns, nubbs, and anything else that sticks out from your fabric |
| Category:Brioche | Brioche stitches and tunisian knitting. To paraphrase Barbara G Walker, "the element of all brioche stitches is a slipped stitch and a yarn over; these are knitted together on the return row". You can also usually tell them by the word "brioche" in their name. |
| Category:Cables | Cables and aran stitch combinations |
| Category:Colourwork_Motifs | Colourwork motifs for techniques other than intarsia |
| Category:Intarsia_Motifs | Intarsia and picture knitting charts |

| Category:Lace | Any lacy stitches |
| Category:Miscellaneous_Stitches | If it really can't fit into another category then put it here |
| Category:Mosaic_Stitches | Colourwork patterns based on the slip stitch technique |
| Category:Multicolour_Stitches | Stitches that rely on the use of more than one colour for their effect. Not charts! |
| Category:Ribbed_Stitches | Variations on the traditional ribbed stitches commonly used on the basques of garments. You know, that ribby bit at the bottom of most sweaters. |

| Category:Texture_Stitches | Textural stitches |
