For a Brioche

Brioche from Cornelia Mee's Exercises in Knitting

Pattern

Materials

Total of 300gms/11 oz (600m/660yds) of DK weight wool in at least 2 colours
Each wedge takes approximately 18.75gm/1.5oz of wool
450gm/16oz of polyester stuffing
2.75mm knitting needles
Optional: 2 large buttons and a 5″ joining needle (used for making dolls)

Gauge

The regular gauge for dk weight wool is 22sts per 10cm/4″ over stocking stitch on 4mm needles. match this gauge to the suggested gauge on the ball band in order to choose the correct yarn thickness for this project.

Gauge for this project is 21 ribs/32sts per 10cm/4″ over brioche stitch worked on 2.75mm needles. Much smaller needles are used because of the nature of the stitch, and to make a firm fabric suitable for stuffing.

Finished Size

60cm/24″ across the widest point
30cm/12″ tall

Abbreviations

Yo = yarn over
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together

Notes: Due to the nature of brioche stitch it is not necessary to wrap the stitches when knitting short rows.

This forms one wedge

Repeat this wedge 8 times to complete one side of the brioche.

Cast off and block.

Make another side.

Making Up

Stitch seams, leaving an opening. Stuff firmly and stitch closed.

If desired, use the 5″ joining needle to stitch through the centre of the pillow and sew a button on each side at the same time. Pull tightly while stitching the buttons on to create the indentation in the centre of the pillow.
