Crochet Cast-On

From KnitWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This method of casting on uses one knitting needle plus a crochet hook or a second needle. It does not require a knowledge of crochet, though it would probably make it easier to pick up the technique.

[edit] Benefits and Drawbacks

This cast-on creates an edge that mimics a standard bind-off edge.

[edit] Method

To execute, hold a needle in one hand and crochet hook or second needle in the other. Make a slip knot in working end of yarn and put it on the crochet hook or second needle. Wrap the yarn from the back of the (first) needle and over to the front, over the crochet hook or second needle, pass the slip-knot loop over the wrap, leaving the new loop on the crochet hook or second needle. Repeat, wrapping the yarn over the (first) needle before passing it over the crochet hook or second needle to make a new loop, until you have one less stitch than required. Place the last loop on the (first) needle as the first stitch that will be worked.
