Beautiful Diamond Pattern

Pins No. 10; 24 stitches to a pattern; 6 shades of scarlet four-threaded German wool, 12 rows of each shade, and for the centre, 12 rows of white. Cast on 128 stitches.

First row:—Knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 3 (make 1 and knit 2 together 3 times), knit 2 together and draw the preceding stitch on the right-hand needle over the stitch formed by knitting the last 2 together, make 1 and knit 2 together twice, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together; repeat.

Second row:—Seamed.

Third row:—Knit 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3 (knit 2 together and make 1 three times), knit 1 (make 1 and knit 2 together twice), make 1, knit 3, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1.

Fourth row:—Seamed.

Fifth row:—Knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1 (knit 2 together and make 1 three times), knit 3 (make 1 and knit 2 together three times), knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together; repeat.

Sixth row:—Seamed.

Seventh row:—Knit 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1 (knit 2 together and make 1 three times), knit 5 (make 1 and knit 2 together three times), knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, and repeat.

Eighth row:—Seamed.

Ninth row:—Knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1 (make 1 and knit 2 together three times), knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 2 (make 1 and knit 2 together four times).

Tenth row:—Seamed.

Eleventh row:—Knit 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3 (make 1 and knit 2 together three times), knit 2 (knit 2 together and make 1 three times), knit 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1.

Twelfth row:—Seamed.

Needles: US3/3.25mm

Use 6 shades of red yarn, beginning with the darkest; work 12 rows of each, 12 rows of white for the centre, then reverse the reds.

Cast on any number of stitches divisible by 24, plus 8 more for the edges

Rows 1 - 4: k across

Row 5: k4, *k2, yo, k2tog, k3, (yo and k2tog 3times), k2tog, pass previous stitch over, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 6: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Row 7: k4, *k1, k2tog, yo, k3, (k2tog and yo 3 times), k1, (yo and k2tog twice), yo, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 8: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Row 9: k4, *k2, yo, k2tog, k1, (k2tog and yo three times), k3, (yo and k2tog three times), k2, yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 10: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Row 11: k4, *k1, k2tog, yo, k1, (k2tog and yo three times), k5, (yo and k2tog three times), k2tog, yo, k1, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 12: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Row 13: k4 *k2, yo, k2tog, k1, (yo and k2tog three times), k1, yo, k2tog, k2 (yo and k2tog four times), repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 14: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Row 15: k4, * k1, k2tog, yo, k3, (yo and k2tog three times), k2, (k2tog and yo three times), k1, k2tog, yo, k1, repeat from * to last four stitches, k4

Row 16: k4, purl across to last four stitches, k4

Repeat knitted and colour pattern to desired length.

Last 4 Rows: Knit across

Cast off.
