Lace-a-palooza

By Sarah on May 21, 2012 9:12 AM
I've uploaded eight new vintage patterns over the last few days. These are quite special baby shawls from the 1940's publication, "Patons Knitting Book No. 450 Shawls"

Seven are knit and the last one is crochet. I've modernised the language in all patterns to make them easier to read and have charted all of the knitting patterns.

Bubbles Baby Shawl

Cirrus Baby Shawl

Cloud Drift Baby Shawl

Fleecy Baby Shawl

Rose Leaf Baby Shawl

Shell Baby Shawl

Shetland Island Shawl with Vandyke Edging

Melody Baby Shawl

Next up will either be a collection of dolls from the 1940's or some lace edgings. I haven't decided yet! :)

Six New Free Patterns

By Sarah on May 18, 2012 1:07 PM
This morning I finished adding all of the patterns from Madame Weigel's Cushions and Cosies Series 6 from the late 1930's :)

The six new patterns available are a mix of knitting and crochet and include a particularly lovely cushion made of octagonal blocks.

The new patterns for today are:

In knitting

Handsome Cushion

Knitted Cushion in Honeycomb Stitch

and in crochet

Fan Shaped Cushion

Unusual Hexagon-Shaped Cushion

Rose Tea-Cosy

Vandyke Cosy

I haven't decided which patterns I'll be adding next but there will be more soon so keep an eye out and let me know if there are any specific public domain Australian or UK patterns that you're looking for.

More New Knitting Patterns and an Old Favourite is Back!

There are lots of new patterns on Knitting-and.com but I hadn't announced them officially yet because some don't have pictures.

If you'd like to find them, they're on the Home Work page. I finished all of the lace edgings and collars (but without pictures so far) and all but one of the garment patterns.

Only one pattern and a whole lot of knitting and tidying up to do (charts) and my 12 year project will be finished!

I've also added a pattern that I used to have online in the old days when my web address was at geocities. I get asked for this regularly so I've uploaded it again.

Baby blanket made up of 24 individual squares with a crochet border. Each square in knit on the diagonal, beginning with an embossed leaf with veins made from eyelets, followed by a row of two leaves. The square is then decreased while being knit in an allover grid of lace eyelet holes. Four squares are joined to form a motif with leaves in the centre and eyelets at the four corners. These 6 squares are then joined in a grid of two by three squares. It is finished on all sides with a scalloped crochet border.

Pram Cover With Embossed Leaves from Patons Knitting Book # R21

I had removed it in the late 1990's because I found out that it had probably not fallen into the public domain at that time but it has now so it's back!

Penguins and Jumpers Sweaters and Knitting, Oh My!

By Sarah on May 14, 2012 7:25 AM

I have updated the penguin sweater FAQ this morning. The only change is the link to buy a toy with a jumper made by volunteers (the toy is commercial, the jumper is knit).

You can find the faq here.

I have also fixed the search function in the blog so search away! :)
