Tatted Snowflake Doily

These motifs are arranged in an interesting diamond pattern for use as a chair or vanity set, scarf or doily. Use tatting thread, ball and shuttle to make this tatted piece.

Each motif measures one and a half inches. For the piece shown you will need to make 25 motifs.

Abbreviations

  • R (ring);
  • ds (double stitch);
  • p (picot);
  • cl r (close ring);
  • ch (chain);
  • rw (reverse work);
  • sep (separate).

R of 2 ds, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 2 ds, cl r.

R of 2 ds, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 2 ds, cl r.

R of 2 ds, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 2 ds, cl r.

Rw, ch 8 ds, p, 8 ds.

* Rw, r of 2 ds, p, 2 ds, join to center p of last r, 2 ds, p, 2 ds, cl r.

R of 2 ds, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 2 ds, cl r.

R of 2 ds, 3 p sep by 2 ds, 2 ds, cl r.

Rw, ch 8 ds, join to p of ch, 8 ds.

Repeat from * 4 times joining center p of last r to center p of first r made.

Make other motifs the same and join as shown in illustration.

Join motifs together as they are made.
